Where it started.
Hi, I’m Brittany! My passion for all things embroidery and fabric came from an early age sewing with my mom and sister. She had a rule that we could not watch tv without helping her with a project or working on a project of our own. So we learned how to quilt, fix holes, hem clothes, and bind her projects each night as we watched whatever was on primetime television.
As I continued to sew I moved away from practical sewing and ran towards using sewing as an art form. I loved spending hours taking pieces of blank muslin fabric and turning them into beautiful scenes of flower fill gardens, funny pictures with accompanying puns, or little people. I could not get enough cross stitching, hand embroidery, or redwork designs.
The Journey Continues.
As I got older and started my own family I wanted a way to incorporate my love of stitching into my life as a new mom. I did not have the time to dedicate hours upon hours to creating elaborate designs and my house had reached saturation level for the number of hoops and embroidered towels it could hold. That is when Homemade Bee was born. I could continue to stitch and share my creations with others.
I decided to start with hoops and embroidered dishtowels to get my feet wet and see what people would like. After doing that for a while I started to incorporate machine-done monograms and embroidery. Now nothing is safe and everything can be personalized.
The journey continues.
Life has been a whirlwind since starting Homemade Bee. I have moved to a different city and in and out of several houses. I’ve gotten married to the best guy a girl could ever hope to find. He is Homemade Bee’s biggest supporter and is not afraid to tell me if something doesn’t look good. Most importantly we welcomed our first child, William, into the world in September 2020. He is my tester to see if designs are itch and placed correctly.
After becoming a first-time mom I made the decision to step down from my full-time elementary school position to support my husband’s small business, focus on Homemade Bee more, and stay home with our son. It has been the best decision I’ve ever made.
I’ve learned so much through this journey so far. I’ve learned that computer programing is not my best skill, that everything looks cuter with a stitched design or monogram, and that you are never too old to expand and learn new skills. I truly hope that you enjoy whatever you purchase from Homemade Bee and that it adds a little joy to your family.
